Crain’s Discusses City Hall

Excerpt:

“Turning the property into a restaurant and space for corporate events, weddings and private parties. It’s familiar territory: Another Bushala business, Atomic Hospitality, already owns two event spaces, Artifact Events in Ravenswood and Morgan Manufacturing in the nearby Fulton Market neighborhood.

The Kinzie Street location might have been a bit off the beaten path a few years ago, but it has only gotten better as development has moved north from the busy Fulton Market area, Bushala said. The restaurant and bar will encompass about 5,000 square feet in one building, with the event space covering about 12,000 in the other, he said. About 6,000 square feet of that is party space, with bathrooms, kitchen and other uses covering the rest. By comparison, Morgan Manufacturing covers 32,000 square feet.

Built in the 1920s or earlier, the buildings have ties to the plumbing industry, used for a period as a boiler factory before becoming a truck repair facility. The event space features ceilings more than 40 feet high capped by a skylight that runs the length of the building.

“We like the industrial elegance to it,” Bushala said.”
